Firefighters have just left the scene of a large woodland fire near Farnham which closed a main road last night.

Fire crews worked throughout the night to deal with a “deep-seated” fire nearby the A287 near Ewshot after the alarm was sounded just before 10pm.

Police closed the A287 while crews tackled the blaze using hose reels, main jets, specialist wildfire vehicles and water carriers.

“Firefighters worked throughout the night to damp down the affected area and extinguish the remaining hotspots,” said a spokesperson for Hampshire Fire & Rescue.

“As conditions improved at first light, the incident was scaled back before a stop message was issued at 11:45am this morning.”
