CHILDREN at St Mary’s Bentworth Primary School enjoyed "a great treat" recently when the postman delivered a special letter from the very top of the Government.

Staff said students were "very proud" to open their letter personally signed by Damian Hinds MP (Secretary of State for Education) and Nick Gibb MP (Minister of State for School Standards) celebrating their high standards in literacy.

The letter is a congratulation for the writing achievements of Key Stage Two, in which St Mary’s had 100 per cent of pupils reaching or exceeding the expected standard.

This is something achieved only by one per cent of primary schools in England.

Headteacher Jo Ayres told the Herald: "Whilst this is only one measure of success and our values teach us that there are many ways to measure that, I am obviously proud of this achievement.

"This represents our collective commitment to our children - well done to the pupils and our whole team!"
