Farnham university encourages students to consider Clearing ahead of A-level results day

As thousands of students prepare to receive their A-level results next week, the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in Farnham is reminding young people that Clearing could open the door to a career in the creative industries.

With results day taking place on Thursday, August 13, the Farnham-based university is encouraging anyone who misses their grades, changes their mind about where to study or decides to apply late not to panic.

Clearing remains open until October 19, giving students time to explore alternative options.

UCA says the UK's creative industries contribute £124 billion a year to the economy and support more than 2.4 million jobs, making creative degrees an increasingly attractive career pathway.

Professor Melanie Gray, Joint Vice-Chancellor at UCA, said parents who have encouraged their children's creative talents can be confident that "by making a creative choice, your child is making a career choice".

BA (Hons) Acting undergraduate Lucy Edwards transferred to UCA after deciding another university was not the right fit for her.

She said: "I'm planning on taking acting forward once I graduate, whether that's theatre work, video game acting, voice acting or another form. The experiences at UCA have pushed me out of my comfort zone and I'm a much better actor for it.

"My advice for anyone applying through Clearing is 'just do it' because you may end up finding a place where you can truly belong."

UCA Student Recruitment Officer Megan Burnage-Isherwood is encouraging prospective students to research their options, prepare portfolios if required, have their qualifications and UCAS details ready, and speak directly to universities before making a decision.

Her final advice is simple: don't rush. Students should take time to discuss their options with family and friends before deciding which course and university feels right for them.
