Badshot Lea Village Infant School was decked out in flags and bunting last week as pupils celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a fabulous party in the playground.

Children were asked to wear red, white and blue mufti for the day and the whole school congregated on the playground for a street party.

They tucked into cupcakes, made by the chef, and squash, before finishing off the afternoon with an ice lolly.

Gemma Ball, headteacher, said: “It was such a great afternoon and so important to mark the occasion. The children have been learning about VE Day in assemblies and across the school, and with the village war memorial attached to the front of the school, it has real significance for the local community.

“Badshot Lea is known for it’s flags and bunting so we couldn’t disappoint.”

Pupils also joined in singing the national anthem and Vera Lynn’s wartime classic, The White Cliffs of Dover, before dancing to a lively selection of 1940s hits.
