Farnham man launches mobile coffee business in memory of late mum

A new coffee van has hit the streets carrying more than just delicious beverages – it's also a tribute to its owner's late mother.

Matt Martin, 55, of Farnham, has launched his own mobile coffee business after almost 40 years working in field sales.

He has named the van Eileen in memory of his mum, who died when he was just 11 years old.

The tribute appears above the van's registration plate after Matt asked franchise company Really Awesome Coffee if he could honour her in that way.

After a career selling everything from crisps and greetings cards to artwork and watches, Matt decided it was time to work for himself.

"I know I have the discipline needed to make a success of my own business," he said. "I want to be the beneficiary of my hard work and commitment."

Matt said his mother had continued to inspire him throughout his life. He has previously honoured her with tattoos featuring letters she wrote from hospital and by growing cuttings from her favourite plant.

He said: "I always remember her as happy, smiling and laughing despite all she was going through.

"That has always inspired me to only ever do what makes me happy too.

"She would have absolutely loved seeing me out on the van, bringing a bit of fun to my customers' days."

Matt hopes his new venture will become part of the local community.

"I want everyone to know my mum's name. I know she would have been delighted to know I've named my van after her," he said.

"She always had a smile and brought joy to everyone she knew, and I want to carry that legacy."

Matt's van is now serving customers across Farnham as part of the Really Awesome Coffee network, which operates more than 100 mobile coffee vans across the UK.
