Farnham's controversial cone artwork set to return after repairs

The £19,500 A Hand's Turn installation will be relocated to the Evelyn Borelli Garden after planning permission was granted on Thursday, May 1. With repair work now complete, the sculptures are due to be reinstated as part of Farnham's World Craft Town Month celebrations.
The artwork was originally installed on Riverside Walk but was removed following public criticism and heat damage. Many residents described the sculptures as an "eyesore" and argued they were in the wrong location.
The installation also attracted a host of humorous nicknames, with some comparing it to "Madonna's cone-shaped bra" while others dubbed it the "dystopian traffic cones".
In January 2026, the artwork was removed for repairs, and Farnham Town Council confirmed it would not be returned to its original location. During its absence, the sculptures were temporarily replaced with real traffic cones.
The repaired installation is now set to be unveiled in the Evelyn Borelli Garden as part of Farnham's World Craft Town Month in October.
