Pubs of the Past: A swift one at The Royal Deer in Farnham town centre

This week Peeps is remembering The Royal Deer pub that stood at the corner of South Street and East Street in Farnham.

The pub, once a characterful watering hole that featured in the first edition of CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide, closed in the late 1980s or early 1990s and has since been used as an estate agents and now a café.

Plans were mooted to turn it into a cultural centre back in 2013, but they never came to pass.

The Royal Deer was notable for the unusual way its name was displayed in a large, scroll-like stone plaque above the doorway – a feature that still adorns the red brick building today.
