Video: Cannon fire rings out across Farnham as castle hosts Heritage Open Day

Loud bangs echoed across the Wey valley in Farnham on Sunday as Civil War re-enactors stormed the castle for Heritage Open Days.

A regiment from the Parliamentary Army of The English Civil War Society including pike men, musketeers and a gun crew gave noisy demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

Castle visitors, including many families, also enjoyed wood-fired pizza, cream teas and coffees on the castle's Great Lawn overlooking the town below.

And Farnham Castle opened its palace gates to visitors for the first time since 2019 for self-guided tours of the Bishops’ Palace.

The castle keep was open throughout too, and Queen Guinevere, aka storyteller Gilly Stewart, led medieval-themed storytelling, craft, and dance sessions for children from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm, assisted by Sir Nigel.
